Weekly Content Update | Carrier Phrases, Potty Training & Image Words

This Week at Gemiini

This week I'm excited to talk about the new Carrier Phrases, Potty Training and Image Words our team has added to the clip library.

Carrier Phrases: Go In

As with all of our carrier phrases clips, our new content for Carrier Phrases: Go In teaches a pragmatic phrase students can use as a foundation when learning to expand sentences. The phrase "go in" has practical applications in many different situations. Because it is so easy to generalize, these clips are a great choice for students who are just beginning to string words together into sentences.

Our Carrier Phrases: Go In clips use repetition to reinforce usage and pronunciation. In each clip, the table is set with an empty container and an array of objects. The adult initiates the activity by picking up one of the items (a school supply in the example above) and placing it into a container. As she puts the item away, she says, "Go in, pencil!" out loud. The child is prompted to copy the adult's actions and continues to put the items on the table into the container, describing her actions out loud during each repetition by pairing the words "go in" with the name of the object.

Carrier Phrases: Bye Bye, Carrier Phrases: Open and the new Carrier Phrases: Go In clips all include examples of pragmatic usage you can generalize with your student outside of Gemiini viewing sessions. All of our carrier phrases are located in the clip library under Spoken Language → Conversational → Encouraging Conversations → Carrier Phrases.

Potty Training

Many of our students have goals that involve becoming more independent in the bathroom. Our new Potty Training clips will help our students achieve this independence by providing a clear visual demonstration of each step in going potty.

Our new Potty Training sequence pairs live models of each step with simple voiceover describing the child's actions. We have also broken some of these actions out of the sequence and uploaded them as their own clips for students who are focused on learning one aspect of potty skills at a time. These new clips are an excellent supplement to the personal care content that already exists in the Gemiini clip library and we think they will help anyone who is working to gain more life skills independence. Potty Training clips can be found in Skills → Hygiene → Potty Training.

Image Word Additions

We are always working to expand Gemiini's library of image words. This week we added image word clips to three categories. Image words for buildings, roads and urban structures have been added to Spoken Language → People, Places, Things → In Our Community → Buildings/Roads, new vocabulary for parts of a home has been uploaded to Spoken Language → People, Places, Things → Home & Household → Parts of a Home, and additional image words for kitchen items have been placed in Spoken Language → People, Places, Things → Home & Household → Kitchen.

If you are wondering how you can use Gemiini to teach carrier phrases or bathroom independence, or if you have questions about integrating any of our content into your student's assignments, schedule a call with one of our product specialists. If you are looking for clips on a topic that doesn't exist in our library, send a content request to videos@gemiini.org.
