Teaching Commands & Directives
Our newest batch of Teaching Simple Commands clips brings heaps of new content to the Gemiini library for teaching common behavioral directives. This project was designed to model behavioral expectations and to teach common verbal cues to Gemiini students at every level of the Language Pyramid. For effective generalization, each command is modeled in a variety of settings (at home, at the park, at the grocery store, and in the classroom), and different adults play the roles of parent, teacher, therapist, peer, and care provider.
Each clip in this project teaches a visual icon for the verbal cue alongside a series of skits that model the behavior indicated by the directive. These icons resemble those used in picture exchange communication systems. We use them here to support Gemiini learners who use visual schedules, first/then boards, or augmentative and alternative communication devices.
This new batch of clips includes generalizations for the commands wait, stop, focus, look, listen, raise your hand, check schedule, and dozens of other directives. Each of the new clips includes at least one generalization in a school setting to model appropriate classroom behavior for Gemiini's school-aged learners.
The scripts were designed to use as little language as possible and can be used in assignments for students at every level of the Language Pyramid. Each generalization is designed to target a single command, so it's easy to teach behaviors unique to your learner's situation. You can find these clips in the Gemiini library under Skills → Behavioral.
