Whether a child has a language delay or not, every person begins with pre-verbal skills and expands from simple language to more abstract and complex understanding and expression over time.

So much so that some children can even become “indistinguishable from typical peers.” The University of Connecticut published a study in 2010 that showed that up to 20 percent of students with diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder could achieve a clinical recovery by age 7 with intensive, early intervention. This backed up an earlier, 3 year study at UCLA, which found similar results.

Like many of you, we don't believe Autism Awareness should be limited to a single month out of the year, but we do think it's important to take the opportunity to inspire people to educate themselves about what ASD is and how it can be treated.

Medical experts say that children with autism spectrum disorder are being diagnosed later than they should be, meaning they are not getting access to specialist services early enough.

A diagnoses of ASD can confirm parent's suspicions and throw them into a whole new world of special diets, therapy appointments, frustration, tears of sorrow, and hopefully more often, tears of joy.

April is Autism Awareness Month and that search phrase is likely to get entered into internet browsers around the world by parents, grandparents, foster families, and anyone else who has even the slightest suspicion that a child in his or her life might have autism.
